Central Library
Library Introduction
The GECJ Library System consists of a Central Library which support the teaching, research and extension programmes of the Institute. All students, faculty members and employees of the Institute are entitled to make use of the Library facilities on taking library membership. The Library has a huge collection of books on engineering, science,humanities & as well as various journals,magazines & newspapers are also subscribed .It was initially setup in 2007 & the Central Library moved to its new building in 2009.
Library Computerization
The Library uses Libsys software package which is an integrated multi-user library management system that supports all in-house operations of the Library. The Libsys consists of modules on acquisition, cataloguing, circulation, serials, article indexing and OPAC. Retrospective conversion of bibliographic records is under process & will be available for access through the Libsys OPAC. The database of books available in the Library is being updated on day to day basis with details of recently acquired books. Records of all the Library patrons have also been created in the Libsys package. The editing and updating activities are in progress.
Bar Code-based Circulation System
The Libsys package has been successfully implemented for the circulation activities. All faculty ,staff & student members have been migrated to the new computerized circulation system. The package has also been implemented for Acquisition and Cataloguing activities. The data entry work for Serials System is in progress.
Service Hours
Monday - Saturday 8.00 AM to 5.00 PM
Sundays and Holidays 10.00 AM to 12.00 PM
Only referral services are extended on Sundays and Holidays when the Library operates on skeletal staff. However, Textbook Section remains operational all through the opening hours of the Library on all days. The Library remains closed on Republic Day (January 26), Independence Day (August 15), Dussehra, Diwali, Holi and Mahatma Gandhi's Birthday (October 2).
Collection
The Library subscribes to 110 current journals. The Library has a rich collection of books on science and technology including chemistry, mathematics, physics, civil engineering, computer science, electrical and electronics engineering,mechanical engineering ,electrical engineering & management. Besides, Library also has a good collection in the areas of humanities and social sciences. Besides General Collection, the Library has segregated specialized collection having separate collection codes mentioned below :

Membership
All the students, faculty members and employees of the Institute can register themselves for the membership of the Library. All Students, faculty and staff members are issued bar-coded ID cards. Their entitlement, in terms of the number of books that can be borrowed by them, are as follows:

Membership Renewal
The Bar code shall remain valid for the period indicated on ID Card.
Checking out Library Documents
Registered Library members are allowed to check out Library documents as per their entitlement mentioned above. Reference Books are not issued out.Bound volumes of journals are not issued out.
Renewals
Books issued to you can be renewed unless they are reserved by some one else. You need to bring the books to the Library for getting them re-issued.
Return of Documents
Documents checked out from the Library should be returned at the circulation desk, during its working hours, i.e. 8.00 PM to 5.00 PM on any working day.
Reserving the Documents
A library user can reserve a book currently out on loan by requesting staff at the Circulation Counter. Notifications for availability of reserved books are placed on the Library notice board.
Loss of Bar-coded Patron Card
The loss of Bar-coded ID Card should be reported to the Library Charge. Duplicate Bar-coded ID Card can be issued, after depositing 50/-Rs Fine. Borrowers shall be responsible for any loss or misuse of their Bar-coded ID Card.
Loss of Books
The borrower is required either to replace the books with a recent edition, if available or pay its cost.
Overdue Charges
Overdue charges at the rates mentioned below are charged for late return of the books: * Rs. 1.00 per day per book for the books issued from Library & Book Bank Section.
Xerox Service
The xeroxing facility is available in the library .The rates for xeroxing are as follows:

The Book Bank is provided to all B.Tech students .The book bank scheme is basically for undergraduates only.
Bindery Services
The Central Library houses a bindery which looks after the maintenance of library documents. Binding outfits are contracted to perform most of the binding jobs for the Library, however, soft binding of journals, not preserved for long, is done in the Library bindery. The Library Bindery also does the lamination work for the Institute.
